Detailed DescriptionDetailed DescriptionTour HighlightsEnjoy an in-depth tour of Florence featuring the famous David by Michelangelo at the Accademia, Brunelleschi's Duomo, Giotto's Bell Tower, the Gates of Paradise, Piazza Signoria, Ponte Vecchio, famous paintings and sculptures, medieval Florence, and Renaissance life. DescriptionIdeal as an introduction to the city of Florence, during this tour you will walk through the streets and piazzas of Florence, discuss the ideas of the Renaissance and the lives of famous artists and important Florentine families like the Medici, who showered Florence with countless masterpieces. During the tour you will explore many charming corners of the historical city center including the picturesque Ponte Vecchio, the oldest surviving bridge crossing the river Arno; the medieval Piazza Signoria, the poet Dante's old neighborhood where you’ll see his house and the small chapel where he first saw his beloved Beatrice; Piazza del Duomo, with its colored marble-clad cathedral and baptistery and the astonishing Giotto bell tower; Orsanmichele, once a grain market, the exterior of which is now adorned with masterpieces of Renaissance sculpture. Last but not least you will visit Michelangelo's masterpiece at the Accademia Gallery, the 15-foot tall David, an amazing work of art for its potent aesthetic presence. After an in-depth discussion of David, you will also have time to admire "Michelangelo's Slaves," a series of breath-taking sculptures of original captives of the stone who writhe, struggle, and turn, forever attempting to free themselves from their rigid marble blocks. The tour finishes inside the Accademia Gallery. Important Notes:
