The History of the Moulin RougeAs one of the first cabarets, beginning in 1889, the Moulin Rouge reflected the period in French history when experimentation, a light-hearted view of the world, a rejection of classicalism, and the nonchalance of the Belle Epoque period was at its height. Artistic creativity thrived, as painters and illustrators sought to express this new freedom from the former classical restrictions of the past. Japanese influences, such as seen in the paintings of Lautrec, were at their height. In this time of eccentricity, as well as the beginnings of the Eiffel Tower, the Moulin Rouge was born.
The Cancan GirlsThe "unruly girls" or Chahuteuses were immortalized by Toulouse Lautrec; they were boisterously dancing this new dance, as witnessed by the painter and written about in 1898. Writers of the period thought that these girls, with their famous physical flexibility, were also reflecting their flexible morals. La Goulue was one of the most famous of the Can-can girls; Lautrec added to her immortality through his representations of her in his paintings.
Today's Moulin Rouge - The Feerie ShowWith 60 Doriss Girls and Dancers, magic happens as the lights dim, and the stage is filled with a spectacle. Over 1000 costumes of sequins, rhinestones and feathers enchant and amaze the viewers. Sumptuous scenery, lovingly crafted by Italian artists, sets the stage for the Garden of the Moulin Rouge. Original music, performed by over 80 musicians and 60 chorus singers, enchants and entertains. A giant aquarium returns to the delight and amazement of the audience. "The show was excellent exceeding my expectation. The location was right across from the Blanche Metro station so we took the subway after the show ( about 11 p.m. ) and the street was full of people so no need to worry about the area as some might suggest otherwise. There's plenty of restaurant around so you may enjoy a leisure dinner before heading to the show. It is also very close to the Sacre-Coeur church so you may want to include that on the day trip. Booking this show with Conciergerie was very easy and the price was very close to booking through the Moulin Rouge official site. The agents were very friendly in answering questions even if they were not related to the booking. The staff were very helpful. I do want to suggest if anyone booking more than one tour through Conciergerie, let them know and they may be able to give you some discount for multi-booking. I would definitely use them again." Order OptionsFirst show (09:00PM) or Second show (11:00PM). Your ticket (voucher) will be delivered online, paper tickets are not required. Your voucher is the proof of booking and settlement and you must print it and present it at your guide or chauffeur while in Paris. You will have access to voucher desk through a secured link provided in your order confirmation email. You can change your reservation date at no charge if you notify us at least four (4) days before your arrival. If you cancel your reservation and you notify us at least five (5) days before your arrival, there is a 20% cancellation fee. After this time no refunds can be made. Prices for shows and dinners which include transportation are valid only when departing from Paris. We apologize in advance for departures or returns that are delayed due to unusual traffic problems.
